William Hugh McWhorter

William H. McWhorter was born in 1839 in Greene County, Georgia, the son of William Harrison McWhorter and Adaline Edmonson. William enlisted as a Private on June 27, 1861 in Company C ("Dawson Grays") of the 3rd Georgia Volunteer Infantry Regiment. He was among those who surrendered at Appomattox Court House on April 9, 1865. The same year he married Mary Elizabeth Cheney and later worked for the Internal Revenue Service. William died a young man of forty-six, leaving his wife and three children: John Welby, Henry Callaway, and Minnie Lourine McWhorter.
