William Jefferson Bush

William Jefferson Bush was born on May 8, 1844, in Wilkinson County, Georgia to Elizabeth DEASON, age 47, and Jordon Bush, age 53. William enlisted as a Private in the service of the Confederacy on April 26, 1861, in Georgia, when he was 16 years old and was mustered into "F" Co. GA 3rd Infantry (WILKERSON RIFLES). Pvt. Bush was in Camp Winder Hospital 9/8/1862 9/13/1862 with rheumatism. He was captured at Deep Bottom, Va. August 16 at the of Battle of Fussell mill and taken to the Federal prisoner of war camp at Point Lookout, Maryland. He was paroled and transferred to Aiken's Landing, Va. for exchange March 14, 1865 and was exchanged March 16, 1865 as part of a CSA/Federal prisoner exchange which was conducted in No-mans-land just below Fort Hokes at Boulwares & Cox's Wharf on the James river near Richmond, Virginia. He applied for a pension in 1908 and died 10 November, 1919.
