John William Whatley

John William Whatley, born in Clarke County, GA, was a member of the 3rd Ga Vol Inf, Co. K (Athens Guards). Entered service June 10, 1861 and was promoted to Corporal in 1863.

He was wounded in the right arm at Spotsylvania May 14, 1864. The wound resulted in the amputation of his right arm.

John William Whatley remained on wounded furlough until the close of the war.

Corporal Whatley's brother served with the 7th Ga Inf Regt (Wounded at Yorktown, Va) and his father served with Co. H, 11th Ga Regt (killed in action, exact place is unknown. Buried in one of the five pyramids at Hollywood Burial Grounds, Va).
