James C Hicks enlisted in Company I , August 21, 1861 in Irwinton, GA.

He appears on the Register of the General Hospital, Petersburg, VA from May 17 to July 21, 1862. Appears on the Register of General Hospital 26, Richmond, VA on Oct 27, 1862. Appears on the Chimborazo Div Hospital No 2 on Jan 31, 1863. And was furloughed from Feb 18, 1863 to June 8, 1863

He became the fifth color bearer for the 3rd Georgia Volunteer Infantry. Carrying the flag until the surrender at Appomattox Court House.

James C Hicks was born in Wilkinson County on October 12, 1835 and married Susan Shepherd of Clay County on December 2, 1860. His first child was born 6 months after his enlistment. After the war, he returned to Wilkinson County where he raised 4 children. He died in Wilkinson County on January 13, 1920 and is buried in Wilkinson County along with his wife and oldest daughter.
