William Randolph Griffin

William Randolph Griffin was born om February 29th, 1840. His birthplace is unknown. It is in Screven County that he was buried at Little Horse Creek Cemetery. His date of death recorded as May 24, 1902. William was twice married, the widows pension application was applied for by his second wife Isabelle (Royal) Griffin. "Isabelle Griffin, widow of William Randolph Griffin is on the pension roll from Screven County in 1926, and has resided in Georgia since 1865. William Randolph Griffin was married to Isabelle June 24, 1878, and was in Co. E., 3rd Ga. Inf., May 11, 1861 at Fort Valley, Georgia, wounded, in hospital first of the year 1865 and discharged from service at the close of the war in Virginia. It is futher stated W.R. Griffin died in Screven County, Ga. and date of death given as May 24, 1902.

U.S. War Department, Office of Adjutant General, Washington D.C. (Now the National Archives, Washington D.C.) stated in 1926 that William Randolph Griffin (also known as W.R., Washington R., and William R.) found as private, Co. E., 3rd regiment, Ga. and on Muster Roll for Jan-Feb. 1865. last roll on file shows him absent and wounded at hospital."

Isabella (spelling on document) Royal Griffin was born Sept. 22, 1960 and died Jan. 30, 1930. She was the daughter of Berry Royal and Martha Ann Johnson. The parents of William Randolph Griffin are unknown at this time. Any information concerning this would be appreciated.

The first wife of William Randolph Griffin was Mattie. Little is known about her, other than she may be buried in laural Grove Cemetery in Savannah, Georgia.
