3rd Georgia Infantry at
Harpers Ferry

Harpers Ferry, Virginia, looking toward Maryland. The 3rd GA was on this hill to the right of the picture. They were back out of view of the town itself, in reserve.


Federals held this hill until Jackson's artillery drove them into town. Jackson put his artillery here and was able to secure the surrender of Harpers Ferry. Looking east, shown is the "upper town." The water-front area is called "the lower town."
