Comments: I started out as a "johnny reb" for the movie "Gettysburg" when the producers were looking for local men to play soldiers. Since then I have bought a confederate uniform...but with a non-firing replica 1853 Enfield. I do have an 1860 .44 cal pistol. (which is a firing replica) I'm like a lone wolf without a rank. Do you have any recommondations?

Comments: My Great Grandfather, Thomas H. Kennon was a member of 3rd Georgia Volunteer Infantry and surrendered at Appomattox, Va. on April 9, 1861. He also gave the State of Georgia a Flag that was on display at the State Capitol when I was a small child. It had his name attached giving credit to the gift. I am trying to locate the flag since it is no longer on display there and I was looking for some record of that at this site.

In 2008 I stated that my wife was from Colquitt County, and she was a Hegwood, well the spelling in 2008 is not correct, she is connected to the Hegwood, Nelms, Powell,Geigers, in Mitchell County, Georgia and other areas in Georgia and Florida, Coming from South Carolina. My family is Miller's and the only thing I can find that we started out in Georgia, Montgomery County and two brothers moved to Mitchell County, and started families, they married sisters which were Turners, we come from the Pate, Vick, Fussell, Steversons, from Wilcox, Wilkerson, Telfair, Coffee, the Fussell's were from Pa, Nc, then Ga. You have a great sight and I see it is building every time some one comes on it . ThanksJoe

He is from the group of Moncriefs who became Baptist ministers. We have a copy of the Baptist Biography that is quoted on this site. It belonged to my grandfather who was the oldest of ten children. His mother was the grandaughter of D.H.Moncrief. Her parents were first cousins, both Moncriefs. Adiel Lumpkin, and Adiel Jared, are both mentioned in the book and are my great grandmother's cousins or uncles. Both became Baptist ministers. These Moncriefs helped establish Mercer University and in fact one ancestor is named Marshall Mercer Moncrief.

Comments: I like studying both the Civil War and the Revolutionary War. Georgia had alot of battles fought in it during the Revolutionary War. One stands out...

There is an amazing story of a "Last Stand" type battle of the Georgia Continentals and GA Militia during the Revolutionary War. There were about 1,400 american troops total, rebuilding a bridge over Briar Creek in Screven County, GA. The British were very upset at their recent devastating loss to the American troops at the battle of Kettle Creek, GA earlier and were seeking revenge. The British troops "2,300 strong (including the Loyalist and Provincial regiments) launched a surprise attack. This caught the American troops totally off guard and many of the troops fled except for the Georgia Militia and Georgia Continentals. These troops were totally outnumbered, facing British artillery and cavalry, they not only stood their ground until almost all of them were killed or badly wounded, but advanced toward the fight! These were the fathers and grandfathers of these brave Georgia troops. Have a great day Georgia!

Comments:  In reading a book on how Lee lost the war and at Gettysburg, on July 2nd Wright had broken the union line it made me interested in Wright.  It also raised the question, if Wright broke the line, yet could not get support to keep his position, how did Lee expect Pickett to hold the line if he broke the Union line. Longstreet told Lee if they did brake the line they could not hold it as they could not get reserves to Pickett.  Lee had no troops ready in reserve to come up to reenforce Pickett.  He had the example of Wright on the 2nd to learn by.  Really something to think about and study.

I'm pleased to see this site honoring our soldiers.  I recently found that my GG Grandfather William W. Berryhill served in:
 COMPANY F, 3d REGIMENT
 GEORGIA VOLUNTEER INFANTRY
 ARMY NORTHERN VIRGINIA
 C. S. A.
 WILKINSON COUNTY, GEORGIA
 ("WILKINSON RIFLES")
Thank you for remembering.

Comments:  Was very pleased to find your site. Discovered that my Great Great Great Grandfather Stephen B. Hargroves started out in the Burke Guards befor changing over to calvary. Was saddened to finally learn what happened to his brother Judson, also of the Burke Guards. He died of smallpox not long after being captured at Gettysburg. If you'll look here on my website you can see a scan of a letter that Jusdon wrote home during the war http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~bpugeneology/documents.html You're welcome to post a copy on your site here, or use my transcription.

Thank you for the wonderful site.

I'm looking for anyone who has pictures, letters, any kind of documents from the 3rd georiga infantry that whould make copies and send them to me or they can send them to my email. Mcdonald in first Co.I.If anyone can help me with information on them please send me a e-mail.I'm also looking for pictures of soldiers of the 3rd georgia infantry so I can put them with the relics I found from the battle. Anyone with pictures of the 3rd georgia that dosn't mind sharing I would gladly appreciate it. I love the site on the 3rd georgia, keep up the good work

L, and came upon this site.  Someone here signed the guestbook by the name of Bob Gallon who must be my relative.  Another interesting thing is that I live 10 minutes from Fort Tejon.  I have now saved this site to my favorites and will share with my sisters.  By the way, there will be a Maxey Family Reunion in the Summer of 2007 if Mr. Gallon comes back here.  Love the site.  It brought tears to my eyes.  My son wants to be a part of the reenactors at Fort Tejon and now he REALLY wants to do it if he gets to reenact our ancestor's regiment.

Comments: My ancestor was a Williams of Company I, Third Georgia Volunteers. I wish I knew more, but I do know he was a dentist, and survived, relatively unscathed, to end his life in Wilkinson County. He had six children, the youngest of whom was my grandmother, Bessie Williams Hubbard of Irwinton, Georgia. His last child, Edwin, died last year. There are many descendents, spread all over the country, (I live in Ohio), but the Williams still have a strong presence in Wilkinson County and surrounds.

Comments: Was searching for info on Co. K of 3rd GA CSA & discovered from the roster that my great-great grandfather William Dickinson Luckie of Covington, GA, was a member of that company! His daughter Elizabeth married Rufus Lafayette Moss of Athens in 1854, which might explain why he joined the Athens Guards instead of a Newton Co. group. A cousin owns a hand-made crazy quilt that contains two ribbons from the Aug. 9-10, 1883 reunion of the 3rd Georgia at Tallulah Falls, GA.

I went where others feared to go and did what others failed to do. I asked nothing from those who gave nothing. I reluctantly, accepted the thought of eternal loneliness-should I fail. Comments: I'm searching for information about my great-great grandfather Henry Harris. He was orginally from Georgia. He possible arrived in Texas late 1860's or early 1870's. According to their marriage certificate, he and my great-great grandmother were married in Texas on Dec. 30, 1872. With all of this said, records show he was born in Georgia. I believe he could have served in the civil war, but I have no date of birth, only an idea of what year he could've born - 1840's?

Comments: My great grandfather Samuel Gideon Marsh served in the 3rd Ga. He enlisted May 15, 1862, was wounded at Chancellorville, but continued to serve and was whith the unit when it was surrendered at Appomattox Court House on Apr 9, 1865. In Mar of 1864 he was granted a 24 day furlough and I have the original handwritten furlough document. I have used you site a great deal in developing a history of my ancestor Samuel Marsh. Thank you for this posting. Is there anyone I can contact about developing more information on the 3rd Ga and my great grandfather.

Also would like to know more about him and his role in the GA. 3rd. Any info. greatly appreciated. I have one picture of him, but it is in the 1920's, when he is around 80 yrs old. Comments: G'day, just when you thought you had your head around this re-enactment thing, you come across a great site like yours. I've only just joined the group here in the last few months and am currently their one and only drummer. After checking for further re-enactors here in Australia I have found there seem to be none. If you have any drummers in your group I would certainly appreciate hearing from them. We have based ourselves on the 44th Georgia Infantry (can't yet find any information on them, but will keep on trying. Once again, a great site and am glad I checked in. Cheers.

Comments: I have 3 relatives which fought in this unit, from Co. A. My father is from Dublin, GA. We do have ties to Burke County. I could not tell from skimming your site, but could you tell me if they were engaged in the Battle of Ox Hill/Chantilly? It was a small battle between 2nd Manassas and Antietam. It is just down the road from where I live. This would have been Jackson's wing at the time. Longstreet's wing was not involved in this engagement. And of course, the 140th anniversary of 2nd Manassas and Antietam are just down the road, which makes this a little more interesting. Let me know if you can help. Which brigade/division (I guess Andersen at the time?) would help. Thanks!

Comments: I am a member of the 17th U.S.Infantry, an 1876 Army re-enaactor/living history group. We are stationed at Fort Lincoln (the fort that General George Custer was stationed at in 1873-1876). I am a private that has been re-inacting the Indian wars era (1865-1888)since 1986 and the Vice-president of our organization. I have slowly been getting my Civil War impression stuff together, since some of the same items are used for the first part of the Indian Wars time period 1865-1872 or 1873, depending on the item being used. Since we strive for all of our items to be correct for the 1876 time period most if not all of my uniform and accruterments are 1873 and after. There is not many if any Civil War encampments or battle re-enactments around here in the Bismarck, ND area, since most of the american history with the U.S. Army takes place around the late 1860's to the late 1890's. Love your site, looks nice Keep in touch with me.

Comments: My husbands Great-Grandfather Van Buren Allen and his brother Stephen B. Allen were both in Company L,3d Regiment Georgia Volunteer Infantry Army Northern Virginia C.S.A. Clarke County, Georgia (Clarke County Rifles). They were both privates on 20 Aug 1861. Stephen B. Allen was killed by a shell on 16 May 1864. I was wondering if anyone might know where they buried them during the war. I would very much like to get a copy of his tombstone. I know where Van Buren Allen is buried and have a copy of his stone. I have really enjoyed going through everything on the website, and thank everyone for their hard work. Thanks for sharing and letting me ask a question.

Comments: Very nice page, I am impressed with your unit. I am a member of Stanford's Mississippi Battery. We don't have a page up now but I will send ya'll a URL when it is on-line. We at SMB are a living history group based on the original Stanford's Battery of 1861 - 1865, a Confederate artillery battery attached to the Army of Tennessee. SMB uses a fully restored original three-inch ordnance rifle, a Federal model 1861, with matching limber. Stanford's Battery entered service from Duck Hill, MS. Duck Hill is only about 25 miles north from my house, Col. Stanford was from Black Hawk, MS. Black Hawk is 20 miles west of my house. My mother was born and raised only 12 miles from Black Hawk, so I am serving with my neighbors. Thanks for allowing me to ramble. Trust in Jeff Davis, but keep your powder dry! I have been considering for a while to join an organization like yours and I am in the process of gathering information on organizations close to where I live (Lawndale, South Bay). Although I would prefer to join a Union group (I am more familiarized with Union Army customs), I am sure that the joy of being part of group like yours will be equally satisfactory. I would aprreciate if you can help me with the following questions: 1) Where can I get more information about organizations close to my area? Are you the only ones around? (the internet is not always the best place to look) 2) Who would be the right person in your group to contact for more information about your group? Thanks for your help Luis Alvarado

Comments: Greetings Reb! I'm with the 2nd Vermont there at the Fort. Well being that I've been able to reenact for a while, I've also started to explore more options. Such as being a sharpshooter, artillery, etc. But then the thought came to me: maybe a Reb. So you might see sometime this reenacting year. My brother Mike Deagon also is with you fellas. And do you remember Ian Mcwherter? He's my brother to. Well at any rate, so you either in line of battle or across the sights of my rifle.

Comments: I found this site to be an incredible source of information to me. I am very interested in Civil War History as is my son who will be reenacting this summer. Your pictures enabled me to put an image of the battles with all that I have read. My son and I will be taking one month to visit as many battlefields and museums that we can this summer. Anyway, I think that this is a wonderful informative site. Thanks!
